01Research Approach

Insights from the inside

This project is grounded in real-world experience as a compliance agent, directly supporting users during identity verification. Observing recurring friction points first-hand shaped every design decision.

Fintech onboarding presents unique challenges due to regulatory requirements, sensitive data handling, and high user anxiety.
02Problem

Why users drop off

Users of international financial platforms often encounter complex and unclear identity verification processes that create confusion, reduce trust, and lead to onboarding drop-offs.

Many fintech companies require sensitive information up front — ID, financial data, business docs — without properly explaining why. Add in multiple steps, poor feedback, and no way to pause and resume, and users bounce.

03Three Core Problems

What I observed directly

01

Lack of clarity

Users felt uncertain because verification requirements and next steps were not clearly communicated.

02

Low trust & anxiety

Uploading sensitive personal information increased anxiety and reduced trust in the verification process.

03

Poor guidance & feedback

Limited feedback after failed uploads caused repeated submissions and onboarding frustration.

04Solution

A guided, step-by-step flow

A guided identity verification flow that improves clarity and trust through structured steps, transparent communication, and real-time feedback.

  • Progressive disclosure — ask only what's necessary at each stage, and explain why it's needed.
  • Real-time feedback — inline validation and capture guidance reduce errors before they happen.
  • Step indicators — clear progress visibility reduces perceived complexity and abandonment.
  • Trust signals — transparent data communication at sensitive moments reduces user anxiety.
  • Save & exit options — users can pause and return, removing time pressure from a stressful flow.
05Goal

What success looks like

Improve verification completion by creating a faster, clearer, and more trustworthy onboarding experience. For fintech, efficient onboarding means building trust, reducing friction, and helping users reach value as quickly — and securely — as possible.
